- Draw a line the size of your button onto the fabric and then make
a tight zig-zag with your sewing machine, leaving thread tails at
each end (maybe 8 inches for ease of maneuvering the needle).
- Repeat the zig-zag along the other side of the button hole
- Hand stitch the ends of the button hole closed using the thread
tails that you created and tie the knots on the wrong side of the
fabric. Carefully cut your button holes open (I use small Fiskars
Micro-Tip scissors).
- Reinforce the ends with a drop of Fray Check or other fabric glue
(do this on the wrong side just in case the glue stains the fabric,
plus, the knots are on the wrong side.)
